To those of you who are making or have produced rum...
I was wondering if you are pre-treating to remove ash, or fermenting and distilling as is. If you are pre-treating, what are you using?
Thanks,
Todd

We have been making rum for about 5 years now... and have never treated our molasses... thats not to say if we could afford a centrifugal filter that we wouldnt try to clean it up... the less undissolved solids in it, the more efficient the fermentation and consequently the distillation would be

We settle solids out by mixing the molasses with hot water and letting it settle for a few days in a conical mash tank.
