The organizing committee wrote on the official website that the most surprising wine this year was a Cabernet Sauvignon from the Chinese winery Zhang Yu Mosel, a wine that gives the future of this region of Ningxia, China, something to look forward to.
The British Sommelier Wine Awards is a wine competition focusing on the high-end F&B channel (restaurants, bars, hotels, etc.) and has been successfully held for 14 years now. The judging panel consists of the World Master Sommeliers, the World Master of Wine, the world's top sommeliers and senior buyers from the high-end restaurant channel, and is regarded as the trendsetter for wines from the restaurant channel. Every year, the wines that win the gold medal are basically competed for by major restaurants.
The jury commented on the 2016 Mosel Family Cabernet Sauvignon: a benchmark wine, some tomato juice and red fruit aromas, full and juicy, great freshness and balance, with a very long finish accompanied by a spicy and leathery aroma.
In addition to this competition, Ningxia Mosel Family Cabernet Sauvignon has also won gold medals at the 2019 MUNDUS VINI World Wine Competition in Germany and the 22nd Berlin Wine Competition.
