World's most expensive Romanee-Conti sold to Asian wine collector

Recently, the world's most expensive bottle of Romane-Conti 1999, a 6-liter bottle from Domaine de la Romane-Conti, was sold. The price was DKK 2.4 million (approximately RMB 2.254 million) excluding VAT, and the buyer was an Asian wine collector.

The deal was completed by Danish wine trading company North Jutland RareWine through a wine broker in Hong Kong. The trading company, which positions itself as a global leader in rare and luxury wines, does most of its business as an exporter, trading mainly in China and Europe with wine collectors and wine investors. And it says it expects a major breakthrough in the trading of the best French wines in the Asian market, where the company is also currently receiving increasing attention from Chinese buyers.

The 6-liter bottle of Romane-Conti 1999 that was sold recently was purchased by the company in 2020, which at the time attracted the attention of the wine world. The company"s founder, Rasmus Nielsen, revealed that he had made money on the deal, but did not want to reveal how much money he had made on the sale of this rare and expensive wine.

Rasmus Nielsen also said in the interview that he had not yet tasted the extremely expensive bottle of wine, but he had tasted other wines from Château Romanée-Conti and they tasted great. And that the wines of Château Romanée-Conti are considered to be some of the best and most coveted in the world. The production is very small, especially in large bottles, like this 6-liter bottle that just sold.

According to Rasmus Nielsen, the 6-liter bottle of Romane-Conti 1999 was available in eight bottles at the time of its launch, and this sale was one of those eight bottles. Because Rasmus Nielsen says he is sure that the other bottles have already been consumed. It is not known exactly who drank them and where the wine finished the transaction.

Rasmus Nielsen believes this remaining 6-liter bottle of Romane-Conti 1999 is very rare and it is only a matter of time before it is resold.

Previously, Château Liber Pater, the most expensive winery in Bordeaux, also just sold a large-capacity bottle of wine at an astronomical price. The 18-liter bottle, from the 2011 vintage, was sold to a private client at an undisclosed price, and the wine was not even labeled.

There are three bottles of this wine, with a reserve price of £210,000 (approximately $1.85 million) based on the auction house's estimate for the third bottle.
