Despite the fact that the wine industry is going through the toughest times due to the epidemic, Rueda wines have proved to be a strong player in the Spanish market, breaking its previous sales record in July.

At the end of last year, D.O. Rueda reached a market share of 11.4%, not only cutting into D.O.C. Rioja"s market share, but also overtaking D.O. Ribera de Duero in second place.
Last year, we broke sales records, selling 92.8 million bottles of wine with the appellation of origin label. Despite the continuous decline in wine consumption in Spain, sales in Luedda have almost doubled in the last ten years, which has led us to increase investment and production, explains Santiago Mora, head of the Luedda appellation.
Mora also pointed out that the situation this year is much more complicated than before, with the closure of the hotel industry leading to a sharp drop in wine sales in April, when Luedda wine sales fell by 60%. But the situation did not last long, with sales falling 30% in May and only 8% in June, while in July wine sales in the Luedda region exceeded 11.5 million bottles, an increase of 18.6% over the same period last year.
The AOC has been resilient enough in this crisis, but Mora points out that there are other reasons why Lueda has won in this crisis: our wines are great value for money and 70 out of every 100 people who taste our white wines become regular consumers. The AOC Luedda is currently working to strengthen its sales in the food channel and in the online trade.
