Spanish wine production down 6.7% compared to last harvest

According to the latest data from the Wine Industry Market Information System (Infovi) developed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA), as of the end of the 2019/2020 wine harvest, wine stocks are now counted at 3.46 billion liters, a decrease of 6.7% compared to the previous harvest season.

Due to the impact of the new coronavirus, sales channels such as the hospitality and restaurant industries have been restricted, which has had a considerable impact on the entire wine industry.

At the same time, the U.S. policy of increasing tariffs has had a significant impact on the wine trade. End-of-season inventories are an important indicator for planning for the next harvest season, as inventory data is added to the final production estimates to ensure there is enough wine to meet market demand.
