This is despite the fact that the state of alert in Spain lasted for three months, limiting marketing efforts throughout the wine industry. But according to the latest data released by Protos Winery, the winery was able to return to its original sales levels despite this situation.

Protos is one of the oldest wineries in the D.O. Ribera de Duero appellation. Carlos Villar, CEO, said: With the end of the state of alert and lockdown, there is a desire to go out and spend money, and despite the limited security and capacity of the various consumer establishments for precautionary reasons, Protos achieved good sales in June for the same period last year.
The closure of the restaurant and hospitality sector has had a considerable impact on the wine industry, but it has also prompted the sector to focus on developing online sales platforms during this time. The change in consumption patterns has allowed wineries to establish a direct link with the final consumer, and Protos has seized this opportunity to consolidate its position while developing new trade channels. Protos currently sells 12 wines online, covering almost all types of consumers, from the type of wine to the price, and a few weeks ago donated 350,000 euros worth of wine to the hospitality industry.
