Spain to approve over 300 million euros in funding to support wine industry

At the proposal of the agriculture, fisheries and food sectors, the Spanish Council of Ministers approved the modification of four royal acts related to the fruit and vegetable and wine sectors to adapt to the special circumstances arising from the epidemic. Among them, it was clarified in the authorization regime for vineyards that the authorization for planting, which expires in 2020, and for startup wine companies will be extended until May 4, 2021.

In addition, the Spanish wine industry support program will provide assistance of more than 210 million euros per year to address the difficulties encountered by the wine industry with regard to external promotional measures and the renovation, restructuring and investment in vineyards, as well as ongoing projects. Another aid for special measures in the wine sector includes measures to address excess stocks with the help of distilled wines and storage subsidies for wines of protected origin, for a total of 90.5 million euros.
