The Wine Society of South Africa (WOSA) released a report yesterday showing that total exports reached 319.2 million liters in 2020, even though the port of Cape Town faced huge challenges such as a ban due to the New Crown Pneumonia outbreak. The improved wine export trade is due to good weather conditions, with vineyards having recovered from a severe drought and grape production increasing significantly.
The UK will remain the largest market for South African wine exports in 2020, WOSA said. South African wine exports to the United Kingdom grew 23 percent to R2.1 billion, exports to Germany grew 4 percent to R1.28 billion, exports to the Netherlands grew 17 percent to R891 million, exports to the United States grew 20 percent to R637 million and exports to Sweden grew 12 percent to R553 million.
