Simon McMurtrie, former CEO of Laithwaite Wines, will succeed Nick Hyde, who has served as chairman of the WSET for the past three years, as chairman of the board of the WSET body.

McMurtrie joined the board of the WSET body in December 2017 and is a member of Vintners Inc. He was previously Global CEO of Laithwaite Wines and in May 2019, he founded the Bordeaux Wine Academy Library with Steven Spurrie.
Meanwhile, Master of Wine Simon Thorpe will step down and Dan Jago and Jo Locke will join the WSET body"s board as new directors.
Dan Jago worked in sales at Layton, then Bibendum for 16 years, ending as Managing Director, then at Tesco as Head of the BWS Group and most recently as CEO of Berry Bros Rudd until 2019. From 2016 until 2019 he was Chairman of the Wine and Spirits Exchange.
Jo Locke joined the London wine trade in 1984 and has been buying, marketing and selling wine in the UK ever since, becoming a Master of Wine in 1990 and serving as President of the Society of Masters of Wine from 2006 to 2008. She has been a wine buyer for the Wine Society since 2004.
Jo and Dan will join the WSET Institutional Board of Directors, which also includes Troy Christensen, Rick Connor, Allen Gibbons, Susan McCraith and Michael Turner.
