Sales of Spanish Tio Pepe wine brand surge during UK city closure

Gonzalez-Bias Family Winery in Spain reports that sales of its flagship Tio Pepe brand have soared in the UK over the past 12 weeks, while sales of the annual release of Tio Pepe Original Sherry are increasing to meet demand.

Gonzalez-Bias Family Wines reported that Tio Pepe Sherry outperformed the entire sherry category in the 12 weeks to June 27, with sales up 33% year-on-year, and that all sherry sales across the portfolio achieved impressive growth in the same period.

Even with the closure of the important trade sector, the release of Tio Pepe Original Sherry in unfiltered form was considered a success, with the UK achieving its fastest sales and sherry also being redirected from other markets to meet demand.

The company notes that these sales are likely due to consumers switching to brands they already know and trust, while others are increasingly shopping at local independent stores and allowing themselves to try new products.
