The main theme of the seminar was to promote the benefits of wine and other foods in the Mediterranean diet, with an emphasis on the quality of the region"s produce.

Regarding the role of wine in the Mediterranean diet, Mairena Martn, professor of biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Castilla-La Mancha, says that the role of resveratrol is obvious, especially when our cells are exposed to external factors (radiation, preservatives, UV rays or excessive fat intake, among many others) and the body has some natural antioxidants that allow the body to resist This stress, but the high exposure to this environment leads to the need to consume higher levels of antioxidants in our diet to counteract oxidative carcinogenicity, as well as neurodegenerative diseases (such as Alzheimer's disease).
