In a joint communiqué, the three appellation management committees analyzed 2020 as a difficult year for the wine industry, in which the New Crown pneumonia epidemic directly affects the production and sale of grapes and wine. The national blockade has brought tourism to a halt, making it necessary to further limit grape production in order to reduce wine processing, as wineries may be overwhelmed by the capacity to handle excessive quantities of grapes; secondly, downy mildew (Mildiu), a long-standing disease that has struck the region"s vineyards, destroying parts of the region's production plantings and forcing the need to invest more money than in previous years to combat In addition, hailstorms affected some areas of the land.

Taking the 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 wine figures and comparing them to 2020, the results show that the average yield per hectare in 2020 fell by 9%, from an average of 1,461 kg to 1,331 kg. There was also a significant drop in foreign exports and local sales, with a total of 4,658,000 liters sold, a 34.7% decrease compared to the same period last year.
