Our recent blog delves into the reasons for the growing interest in fine wine: the ability to provide stability in the midst of turmoil has become a hallmark of the year. the Liv-ex 100 is up 3.8% year-to-date, outperforming the FTSE100, DAX and Hang Seng and is very stable, fluctuating by just 1.5% per month.

Bordeaux (40.5%) traded up this week, above 40% for only the second time in the last ten weeks. 2010 and 2015 vintages led the region in terms of total value traded, while the 2017 vintage led in terms of sales.

Burgundy (17.8 percent) traded lower than last week, with white wines accounting for a quarter of the region"s transactions.

The U.S. (11.3%) share was almost double that of the previous week, driven mainly by trading in the large Screaming Eagle and the blockbuster Opus one.

Champagne (9.3 percent), Italy (14.3 percent), Rhône (3.6 percent) and other wine regions (3.2 percent) all traded slightly higher than last week.

This week, Romanee-Conti DRC, Romanee-Conti Grand Cru 2017 was the highest traded wine in terms of total value, selling for £125,000 per bottle. Compared to previous vintages, the 2017 (AG 96) can almost be considered affordable. The 1990 vintage (NM 95) sold for a final price of £20,737 per bottle (£248,844 / 1275 per case). Indeed, four of the five most expensive bottles sold this year were also Romanee-Conti, all priced at £20,000 per bottle (£240,000 per case).

Another high-priced wine is Screaming Eagle, Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, which James Suckling says is a pleasant wine and has paid off well for those lucky enough to get a quota. Since it was first traded 4.5 years ago, the price of this wine has reached a record high, up over 50%.
