In 1850, Carlo Gancia, the father of Italian sparkling wine, founded the company Fratelli Gancia C in Canelli. After 15 years of research, the first traditional Italian sparkling wine was created in the cellars of the Cattedrali sotterranee in Canelli, which was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014.
To commemorate the birth of Italy"s native sparkling wine, this commemorative stamp issue features an old poster from 1922 by Fratelli Gancia C, created by Leonetto Cappinello, a well-known illustrator of the time, called DonnaFarfalla.
