Recently, an agreement was finally reached between the Italian Ministry of Agriculture and the major regional parliaments to provide 50 million euros in grants to the country's wine producers for the distillation of common wine stocks.

The program will not only reduce wine inventories, but also increase production of ethanol (used primarily in the production of disinfectants).
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy also stressed that the distillation is for ordinary wines, but the reduction is only for premium wines, hoping that this initiative will guarantee the quality of Italian wines this year and regulate the market balance. Wineries and winegrowers can join voluntarily, according to their own situation.
