In order to help wine companies to solve the problems caused by the epidemic, such as stagnant sales and stockpiles, the Italian Ministry of Agriculture recently issued a new decree that allows some regions to store DOC and DOCG wines outside the appellation.

Four appellations have already benefited from this policy: the Chianti Classico DOCG, the Barolo DOCG, the Barbaresco DOCG, the Franciacorta DOCG and the Morellino di Scansano DOCG. and Morellino di Scansano DOCG.
Of course, this decree does not mean that wine companies can choose the location of their wines without restriction. In the case of the classic Chianti appellation, for example, the winery must choose a location within the administrative boundaries of the provinces of Florence and Siena.
In the coming days, the Ministry of Agriculture"s storage plan for the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG appellation is expected to be published in the Gazzetta Ufficiale.
