Last month, the UK pushed ahead with a new round of outbreak prevention and control measures, while one of the UK's largest brewers, Greene King Brewery (Greene King), announced the closure of 79 of its pubs, 25 of which are permanently closed, and will lay off 800 staff.
Founded in 1799, Greene King Brewery was acquired by Li Ka-shing"s Cheung Kong Holdings for £4.6 billion in 2019. Greene King Brewery is a microcosm of the current restaurant industry in the U.K. Starting in September, a curfew was imposed on restaurants and bars in England, which must close at 10 p.m. This has dealt a full blow to the local restaurant industry. Managers of pub operators Youngs and City Pub Group say they may also be forced to lay off hundreds of staff.
Currently, the cumulative number of diagnoses in the UK has exceeded 540,000 and the number of deaths is over 42,000.
