Germany begins harvesting ice grapes for 2020 vintage

Recently, winegrowers in the German wine regions of Nach, Rheinhessen, Palatinate, Franconia and Rheingau have successfully harvested ice grapes at extremely low temperatures for ice wine production.

Strong flavor and low alcohol content

Usually ice wine has a high residual sugar content of over 100 g/l; it has a lower alcohol content, usually only about 7%, compared to sweet wines produced in warmer wine-producing countries. Ice wine enjoys a high international reputation as a rare and distinctive sweet wine. What makes it special is its refreshingly high acidity, which is super sweet but not overly sweet, and its ability to achieve a balance of sweet and sour in the mouth.

Ideal for festive celebrations, ice wine is also perfect as an aperitif and is recommended for fruity desserts, ice cream or smoothies.
