Fourth World Wine Tourism Congress to be held in Chile

Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (OMT), recently announced that the 4th World Wine Tourism Congress (Congreso Mundial de Enoturismo) will be held in Chile in the second half of next year.

The World Wine Tourism Congress, which brings together the world"s leading experts in the field, was held at wineries and vineyards related to wine tourism to discuss in depth the scope and progress made in the development of wine tourism and to promote its sustainable development, Chilean newspaper The Courier reported on April 15.

Mnica Zalaquett, Vice Minister of Tourism of Chile, said: Our country was chosen to host the congress, proving that our country is a top wine producing area in the world. Currently, wine tourism is the engine that drives the development of tourism in the central part of the country.

Sarragette added: Chilean wine is now exported to 150 countries and regions around the world, and about 1.9 billion people have enjoyed Chilean wine in the last year, which means that on average, more than 60 people around the world are tasting Chilean wine every second, therefore, the Chilean wine industry has a huge potential for development. At the same time, she also stressed that tourism will create jobs and drive local development, which is economically significant and should be focused on.

It is worth mentioning the organized development of wine tourism in Chile following the establishment of the first wine tourism routes in the late 1990s, with the Valle de Colchagua being a pioneer in wine promotion.
