On the one hand, it has a loyal following of high income earners and is one of the rarest and most popular wines on the market. On the other hand, it is the most expensive winery in Bordeaux, and its pricing, comparable to that of Romanee Conti, has been controversial.
Most of the wines made by Loic Pasquet are very expensive, even the most common Vin de France can be sold for $4000 (about 26,000 RMB) per bottle.
In September 2019, Pasquet launched 240 bottles of the 2015 vintage at €30,000 (about RMB 230,000) per bottle (750ml), once becoming the most expensive Bordeaux in the world.
This wine is the first to date to be made from grapes before the onset of phylloxera. It was macerated in clay pots for two months and then aged for two and a half years without oak barrels.
Château Libert has a very small vineyard area of 2.5 hectares and sells up to 1,200 bottles of wine a year. The owners use some rare and ancient grape varieties to make their wines, such as castcasts, Tarney-Coulant and Pardotte, which are said to produce very unique wines.
At the same time, the vineyards are very densely planted, and mules are used to cultivate the vineyards. Since taking over the estate in 2005, Pasquet has released only six vintages: 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2015. 2016 was not produced and 2017 was not vinified because the grapes were completely destroyed by frost.
Back in 2015, Pasquet bottled the 2011 vintage and set aside three 18-liter bottles, two of which Pasquet had in mind to keep as gifts for his daughters when they came of age, and the other to sell to a collector.
But later, two bottles that were intended to be left for her daughter were also sold to a wine merchant, who recently sold the acquired bottles to a private client.
The third bottle, on the other hand, will be auctioned in 2022 with a reserve price of £210,000 (about RMB 1.85 million).
