British wine merchant Maisons Marques et Domaines has taken over Armit Wines, which has represented Château d"Ornaya wines in the UK for many years, with immediate effect.
Giovanni Geddes da Filicaja, CEO of Ornellaia Winery, said: "Ornellaia Winery has decided to change its distribution strategy in the UK market ahead of a series of challenges facing the entry of New Crown Virus into the UK trade.
Armit Wines has worked with Château d'Ornaya for a number of years and during their tenure the brand has seen a significant increase in popularity in the UK. The decision to entrust MMD UK with the distribution of its wines in the UK market and the development of a B2C channel by the management team of Château d'Ornaya demonstrates the evolution of Château d'Ornaya's long-term vision.
In MMD's wine portfolio, Château d'Ornaya will sit alongside several other Italian wineries, most notably Château Pio and Marquis de Barolo, as well as Champagne Louis Dauphine, Château Bichamp and Château Vibit.
Richard Billett, Managing Director of MMD, said:We are delighted and excited to be working with one of Italy's greatest wine companies, Bodegas Ornaya. We look forward to working closely to strengthen and continue to develop the distribution, positioning and impressive reputation of this prestigious winery in the UK market.
