The Beaujolais appellation recently announced the status of the Beaujolais 2020 vintage, which it described as an extreme vintage. The harvest was held on August 20, one of the earlier vintages since 2003, due to successive hot and dry spells, and was largely completed by the end of September.

Despite the challenges, the quality of the fruit produced was high, with Gamay reaching a good level of ripeness, excellent structure, dark skin color and elegant aromas. Dominique Piron, President of the Inter-Beaujolais, said: "We have had an extraordinary year, but as things stand, 2020 will be a very good vintage for Beaujolais.
