This has slowed down customs clearance and we have not heard of any shipments going through customs yet. There has also been a significant slowdown in wine shipments to China, and exporters are waiting for further clarity on the situation.
Battaglene said that at least half of the wine exported to China did not leave Australia after a ban on Australian wine was imposed on Nov. 6 on the Internet. We believe that exporters may have shipped 50 to 60 percent less, so we believe that a significant number of exporters received messages from importers advising not to ship, or to suspend orders until the situation was more appropriate.
