According to a joint poll conducted by the All-Russian Center for Public Opinion Research and the satellite news agency, nearly half of Russians drink wine and tend to choose semi-sweet types; twice as many prefer red wines to white ones.

According to the survey, 46% of Russian respondents reported drinking wine: 24% preferred red wines, 11% preferred white wines, 10% had no particular preference, and 1% preferred rosé wines. Another 54% of respondents said they do not drink wine.
Among occasional wine drinkers, 46% chose semi-sweet, 30% chose dry, 13% had no particular preference, 4% preferred liqueur and fortified wines, 4% preferred other types of wine, and 3% said it was difficult to answer. Among occasional wine drinkers, 42% prefer unoaked wines, 19% prefer sparkling wines, 32% don"t care which, and 7% said it was difficult to answer.
According to the poll, 45% of Russians have bought wine in the past year, 26% more often buy national wines and 12% more often buy foreign wines.
The poll was conducted on July 2, and 1,600 Russian citizens over the age of 18 were surveyed.
