Alain Voge passed away on the morning of Wednesday, September 2. He took over the family winery completely in 1965 and quickly started making his own wines after a dispute with a local wine merchant.

In the 1970s, he was one of the few vintners to help preserve the Colnas vineyard. In the aftermath of World War II, the steep slopes of the Colnas vineyard made it unattractive to many other farmers and lost ground to the spreading urban sprawl.

In the 1980s, Alain Voge was involved in a great deal of redevelopment work in Cornas and the nearby Saint-Pere appellation, and he likewise helped to bring the region back from the brink of obscurity.

In the 1990s, Alain Voge"s wines began to gain increasing popularity abroad, especially in the American market, but later on they also appeared to be increasingly popular worldwide.

In the process, he helped bring new awareness to the wines and vines of this appellation in the northern Rhône Valley, along with the likes of the equally esteemed Auguste Clape, who passed away in 2018.
