This year, from what we have seen so far, the quality and quantity of grapes are promising throughout Italy. On September 3, the Minister of Agriculture, Teresa Bellanova, will release the official data for the 2020 vintage in an online conference.

In terms of climatic conditions, this year April and May had moderate temperatures and low rainfall, while the heat conditions (condizioni termiche) monitored during most of June and July were slightly below the average of previous years, with rainfall and heat waves occurring only in the last days of June and July.

In terms of vineyard health, vineyards throughout Italy are currently in good condition, with few outbreaks of macchia di leopardo nationwide, and only a few areas in the Trentino Alto-Adige region and Friuli Venezia Giulia Only isolated areas of Trentino Alto-Adige and Friuli Venezia Giulia suffered from peronospora, causing some damage, but the situation has been brought under control. In the Romagna, Tuscany and Abruzzo regions, powdery mildew (oidio) was present in some vineyards. The next month or so will be pivotal for the overall quality of this year"s harvest.
